Belt Rack 2022

Way back in the fall of '96 I had whipped up a belt rack for my clothes closet which has worked faithfully for over a quarter-century. It was constructed from walnut and actually looked OK and worked just fine but I was never particularly happy with the construction, which was composed primarily of commercial wooden dowels. Such was my lack of enthusiasm that it never even got its own web page until I made this one.

I was casting around for project ideas and thought I could make a more woodworky sort of belt rack. But before I started that I figured I'd first thin out the belts which had accumulated over the years. I managed to get rid of 10 or 12 and while I still have too many, there is no longer any danger of comparison to Imelda Marcos.

I took a similar approach to the design as that used in my 2015 scarf rack where shaped purpleheart forms the structure and hooks. It was a conceptually simple matter of making a blank and then shaping and sanding it to the finished design.
