I had trouble finding a CD stand that we liked, so of course I had to make my own. I used walnut so that it would match the speakers in the stereo system. The sides are plywood with walnut veneer and edging, while the rest of it is solid walnut. I played around with different means of providing the backs for the shelves - I had decided I wanted them open. I finally ended up with the curved-cross shape based on aesthetics, manufacturability, and function. Of course, you can't really see them but I, at least, know they're there.
