When spring rolls around we usually purchase potted plants and this typically happens early enough so that there is still the risk of frost at night. As a result the plants usually get taken into the garage at nights until around Victoria Day. This transfer process is made much easier by using a cart rather than carrying the planters one at a time.
Back in the winter of 2020 I had slapped together a cart for moving some equipment and later in spring repurposed it for plant transport. The deck was made from scrap lumber supported with a surplus set of casters left over from a tool cabinet. A rope handle was used to drag it around and while it worked OK, it was pretty crude. I don't actually have any photos of that one.
In 2021 I built a better cart based on a wagon-hardware kit which provided larger pneumatic tires and the classic wagon handle that steers by turning the front tires.
In 2022 the original crude cart was busy supporting some very heavy junk and wasn't available for garden use so this gave me a good excuse to build another. Like the 2021 model this used a 2-ply OSB plywood deck but I used smaller 4"-diameter casters for the wheels (smaller wheels = less space to store). When we'd bought our plants this year, I used a push-from-behind cart at the greenhouse and liked its maneuverability so
I made this latest cart the same way. The handle assembly is just friction-fit so that it can be removed for storage.
