Doorbell
In what seems to be a common occurrence with me, I was unable to find something to buy that I liked. In this case it was a doorbell. In fact, I did buy a new one, but I did not like it at all, so I set out to replace the cheapo yellowing plastic cover on our old doorbell (whose innards still worked fine after a bit of maintenance). I ended up making this fairly simple Cherry cover with Yellowheart inserts. The inserts were more functional than decorative, since my piece of Cherry was not actually large enough for the doorbell. Due to this problem, I needed to expand the height and since I had joints anyway, I made them stand out with the contrasting wood. I thought the end product looked rather plain, but it was way better than the original plastic cover.
