I had seen a photo of an incised wooden art piece and adopted the style in these carvings. I made the tree first - essentially as practise - but ended up finishing it off since I wasn't sure I was going to do another. It may not come as a complete surprise that I ultimately did follow that up with another, this time the rose.
Both of them were
carved from flat blanks using miniature chisels and were then sanded smooth.
