I had wanted to make another "intersection" type of carving for a while. While deciding on a wood, something without an obvious grain direction seemed to be desirable both for aesthetics and strength, so I settled on Maple Burl. The piece is symmetric with three curved, intersecting triangles. The trickiest part was forming the inside angles while keeping the surrounding surface flat. Some custom-shaped wooden sanding forms helped.
