Plant Shelf

Last year we acquired an asparagus fern and I parked the pot in the crook formed by three trunks of a backyard Elm tree to add a bit of colour to the grey trunks. We overwintered the fern indoors and it got larger and then was repotted and as a result wouldn't sit quite as nicely in the tree the next spring. I decided what it needed was a little tree shelf.

The shelf is constructed with square-sectioned slats supported by similar-sized joists which attach to each slat using small brass screws. The shelf was made with pieces cut from a few short 2x4 cedar scraps and was left unfinished. The slat ends were each cut at the proper length and angle so the shelf sits nicely in the crook, contacting the bark of the three trunks. It's just set in place and should be fine as long as the tree doesn't grow too much and Earth's gravity remains unchanged.
