Divided Plate
I occasionally make a snack of a varied selection of items. When placed on a plate however, there is a risk of juice from any "wet" items (olives, peppers, pickles etc.) running onto any "dry" items (cheese, sausage, crackers etc.). Now while this is unlikely to be near the top of a list of the world's problems, it did present an opportunity for a woodworking project.

The obvious solution was a divided plate providing the requisite wet/dry isolation. I started with a plank of roasted curly maple with the basic shape being turned on the lathe and then the cavities were carved out. It is finished with a polyurethane varnish which I had previously tested to be adequately waterproof. There are a few construction details here.
