A friend had sent a photo of a wooden "ring toss" game and thought it might be something I'd enjoy whipping up (for her). I felt I was up to the challenge except I doubted I could bring myself to make it quite as ugly as the one in the photo; a crudely-made softwood construction with a ghastly high-contrast stain.
After a bit of research as to what these things are - more properly a "ring swing" game and apparently all made in China based on the questionable translations - I nailed down some suitable dimensions. It didn't really seem like the kind of thing that lent itself to construction from a respectable hardwood so
I opted to use plywood. To give it a bit more flexibility, it was made to disassemble for more-convenient storage and as a bonus I managed to use some leftover bits from a project made for one of her daughters which was a nice completing-the-circle sort of thing.
Now I'm not sure it quite measures up to the commercial version ("100% NATURAL SOLID WOODE, ENHANCED VERSION-Bigger and more stable. This is an upgraded ring toss game. In addition to the larger size and more stability, The faint smell of the natural wood makes human ease.we have also upgraded the difficulty.") but presumably it will let one swing some rings with or without human ease.
