The storage area in our garage is full enough that it often takes quite a bit of digging to find things, especially those nebulous "maybe we have one in the garage somewhere?" things. Despite resisting for years, I finally accepted that we could use a shed in the back yard to hold some of the less-used items that we were not yet ready to part with ("can't throw that piece of hose away - we might need it").
I considered a pre-made plastic shed but decided that building a wooden shed would be a nice summer project and we'd also have more control of the size and looks. It ended up being a 7' x 9' footprint with a gable roof, sitting on a gravel pad just behind the garage. I hadn't done much construction work in the past so there was a bit of research involved and while it's probably somewhat over-designed, I'm confident it isn't going to collapse. The
construction process should be familiar to anyone well-versed in construction (I hope) and it made a pretty good primer if I was going to follow on and build an actual house. Which I am not.
