This table is made to be sandwiched between the back of a sofa and a wall. A relation asked me to build it since they had recently moved and their tools were still in storage. They wanted it built out of unmodified construction 2x4s to give it a rustic look. And boy, is it rustic. Anyway we messaged and emailed with text and sketches back and forth over a few days (different town, plus COVID) until we nailed down the details; material, dimensions and construction details.
The actual
construction went pretty quickly and it came together in less than a week. Apparently avoiding planing, jointing, shaping, carving, sanding and finishing can help to speed things up - who knew? But in terms of details; the tops use full-sized 2x4 boards while the legs and other parts use half-thickness boards to reduce weight. The groups of three boards forming each piece are glued together with
biscuits to form solid pieces and then those pieces are screwed together with the support of short assembly blocks on the underside. The table is composed of two individual sections that will normally be attached via a couple screws but can be separated for future flexibility (and to fit into one of our available vehicles for moving).
