This tower is a bit of an offbeat turned-and-carved piece that I thought might be interesting to do. It was originally envisioned as a symmetrical tower with an external staircase but when doing some tower-design research I came across a photo of one that included the extra top section. That looked pretty interesting so it got incorporated into the design as a destination for the staircase. That moved it a bit further from a "turned vessel" towards the "model miniature" end of the spectrum, but I was OK with that. In keeping with the "miniature" side of the personality, it was made to 1/64 scale meaning that a full-sized version would be about 80 feet tall with a diameter of 16'.
The main tower is a single piece of
turned and carved walnut, incorporating the 93 steps to the smaller top tower (the "annex") which is fabricated from another couple of turned pieces.
