Cart Parts
My brother-in-law's family has a horse cart of uncertain age that they were planning to refurbish. In addition to a fresh coat of paint, the effort also included making it a better fit for their large Clydesdale draft horse called Connor. To improve the fit, some longer shafts were required, and I was recruited for that particular task. Then after looking over the cart, I also volunteered to make a new set of armrests too since the old ones were mismatched and rather, well, let's just say "inelegant" metal pieces.

Both the shafts and armrests were made from birch. The shafts mount to the frame of the cart and extend about 8 feet in front to provide plenty of room for Connor's hooves. The armrests also provide support for the backrest. Some construction details can be found here.
