I had some circular scraps of plywood left over from another vessel so rather than toss them I figured I'd stack 'em up and make a turned vessel. These were pieces of Baltic Birch plywood, which has all-Birch layers that are thinner than those in normal plywood. The sheet was 18mm thick and had 13 laminations so the laminations were a bit thicker than a dime but not as thick as a quarter. Say about 17¢ worth in this increasingly-tortured analogy.
To make the vessel a bit more interesting, the layers were tilted 15 degrees off horizontal and walnut caps were used on the top and bottom. After lamination, the assembly was turned to shape and hollowed on the lathe. This is a pretty conventional construction process and I have the photos to prove it
here.
