This inspiration for this bit of wall art was a sculpture by woodworker Kerry Vesper. I happened across a photo of a large installation he had made for a commercial space and used that as a starting point for the design of this much smaller item.
The heart's ribbon-like structure is made from birch and purpleheart. More specifically, two layers of birch plywood are sandwiched between pieces of solid purpleheart. The
actual construction technique was pretty straightforward and consisted of laminating the wood layers, cutting out the rough shape and then doing copious amounts of sanding.
