Sue has a hand-made clay pot from Botswana that she received as a gift many years ago from a friend who had lived there for a while. I liked the classic style of the pot and thought I'd make a slightly larger replica from my favourite medium which it may not surprise anyone to know is wood.

this one is constructed by having the pattern outlined with narrow grooves and then the various areas are tinted for contrast. I considered using multiple woods for the contrast but I hadn't really done any decorative staining so I thought that would be a more-interesting approach, plus that technique is a bit more faithful to the original construction. And making a segmented vessel with diamond shapes and tight curves would be really, really hard. But that certainly wasn't a factor...
