I had a large selection of leftover branches littering the shop from my previous project so I figured I could thin them out by turning a few more decorative Christmas trees
like last year. Being late June, it was more of an anti-Christmas date but of course being an elf is a year-round gig.
Once again the wood mostly came from the yard although this year I branched out (ha!) and collected some from neighbours and relations, plus I made a safari or two into the deepest, darkest bush in the park behind my old primary school to find a bit more variety. The
turning procedure was pretty standard although I accepted that if I was going to get a decent yield of usable trees, I'd need to repair a good portion of them: poorly-adhered bark bits flying off being the usual issue; glue being the usual solution.
I also whipped up a few bases sized to hold sets of trees. These were all made from book-matched Cedar end-grain slices which made the growth rings quite visible.
