Knife Block 2022
A quarter-century ago I made a knife block to hold our kitchen knives. It's worked well but over the years we accumulated a few more knives and ended up with one more than the number of slots, forcing the extra to reside in a gadget drawer. After cleaning up the drawer one Saturday morning I was reminded of our knife/slot mismatch and thought it might be worthwhile to fix that.

Due to the current block shape and the knife lengths involved it wasn't too practical to modify the existing block so I thought I'd just build a new one that had an extra slot.

I considered some alternate designs but in the end stuck with the original approach. The 2022 model is the same laminated construction of cherry but around an inch longer than the 1997 original. The current knife block was also being used as a makeshift holder for a couple pairs of wireless headphones, so I included some pegs in the new design to accommodate those.
