This is a simple little base made for a bedroom phone. We still have a landline (need it to get out of the Matrix) and while most of our phones are cordless, we still have one old-school wired version and it resides in the bedroom. It has an extra-long coily cord so it can reach across the bed when it rings in the middle of the night ("Here - it's for you..."). Unfortunately the wires and coily cord are rather messy and furthermore present a vacuum-cleaner-feeding hazard so after a couple decades of it assaulting my sense of neatness, I decided to do something about it.
The "something" is just a low shelf supporting the phone with a space underneath to tuck the unruly cords. The shelf is made from walnut to match the headboard against which it sits. It is mostly made from a single warped scrap of walnut left over from a previous project. This made me feel particularly efficient but in point of fact I have many many other scraps that could do to be used up too.
The top and ends are formed from laminated planks and connect with narrow box joints. One of the long sides has a wall to constrain the cords while the other is open to allow access. The regular doesn't-he-have-anything-better-to-do photos and descriptions can be found
