I hadn't really set out to make a decorative rose-themed wall plate but somehow that was what I ended up with. A scroll-saw-made rose had been brought to my attention by a Mr. Y. Tube and while I'm not usually a big fan of the type of items that are produced by the scroll saw, I found this rose blossom design to be appealingly textured.
I originally made a single rose, which was pretty straightforward:
cut it up, shape the pieces and glue it back together. The most time-consuming part was just sanding the shaped pieces. That one was made from Cherry although at the time I didn't have a specific use in mind for it. By the time it was done we still hadn't managed to generate any good ideas, so I...um...decided to make a couple more. After the third one was done I finally had to bite the bullet and elected to combine them on a simple elliptical plate as wall decor.
