Tissue Box Cover 3
A
I was kind of on a roll making tissue box covers, so I moved on to replace the one that usually resides in the kitchen. This is another long-format tissue box and it's a bit difficult on the current one to feed the tissue through the hole (and if you must know, that's because the hole is the nose of an Easter Island head representation). This one should solve the "nose" problem, and perhaps the "What kind of taste do these guys have?" problem.

This cover is maple burl with African blackwood corner trim. The cover was built with an inner box of 1/8"-thick Finnish birch plywood to help improve the rigidity of the walls and minimize seasonal warpage. The actual burl is only about 1/8" thick over the inner box. The available burl sizes tend to be limited so the top is made from a thicker book-matched piece, giving the symmetrical grain pattern. There are details on the construction here.

2021 Update: Not many months after making this cover, Kimberly-Clark discontinued the box size that this cover was made to fit so of course that meant that the cover was 1/2" too short for the new boxes. After making a couple more "modern-sized" covers in 2021, I went back to update this one to add the extra height it needed.
