I'm not a big Christmas decoration guy but I'd come across a photo of some little Christmas trees that had been turned from actual tree branches and thought they looked pretty nice. Since imitation is the sincerest form of flattery I figured I'd flatter whoever made the originals by making exactly the same thing. Besides, they should be simple to do and I could probably find someone interested in them.
It turned out to be not quite as simple a procedure as I had hoped but I kept
making "practise" trees until I finally got a few that looked decent. Unfortunately the best tree requires pretty much the ideal branch to start with (Spruce, very round, quite straight, well-enough seasoned and preferably with interesting grain or a contrasting core). While I had a number of branches saved away in the basement, that's a pretty long list of requirements so rather few met the "ideal" criteria. However some were close enough to produce a few interesting-looking trees.
