I'd made a number of wooden spoons last year and the unused/unclaimed ones were languishing in the basement, stored in a plastic yogurt container. I was looking for excuses to do some turning so making a nicer version of the yogurt container seemed like a fine idea.
The resulting vessel fortunately doesn't look much like a plastic yogurt tub but it's definitely related by the critical dimensions. As to design, the last vessel I made was segmented so of course this one needed to be different; it was turned out of a single block of Western maple. I also wanted to do some sort of carving and after much unseemly dithering and several test carvings it finally came down to either a woven motif or a Celtic knot design. I kind of liked them both so what I finally
used was a hybrid of the two designs.
