As an electrical engineer it is perhaps unsurprising that I might have a diverse selection of wire types kicking around. This is in fact the case, with many of them occupying a very over-full cardboard box on utility shelves in the basement. Unfortunately it required serious excavation to find anything so I finally decided to sort the wires out (coax cable, audio cable, solid wire, stranded, magnet, etc., etc.) and needed a better way to store them. I tried plastic bins, but they weren't a very good solution so I looked for a suitable set of small drawers that would fit into the space I was currently using. I failed to find any appropriate models but I liked the look of an Ikea set ("MOPPE") made from birch plywood and thought I'd made something with a similar design, but in the size I needed.
The MOPPE (why all capitals? I don't know) cabinet and drawers used box joints on the corners so this also gave me a good excuse to get a new joint jig. I
used the same Baltic birch plywood in 3/8" thickness using 3/8"-wide joints for the drawers and case, with 1/4" plywood for bottoms, backs and dividers. The drawers slide on wooden runners and are removable for more-detailed digging.
