Whenever I use the Kitchenaid stand mixer, I think that I should have a better spoon to scrape down the bowl sides. Now, we actually have a couple spoons that work pretty well so the impetus for a better spoon has been rather weak. However I was casting about for a new woodworking project and that provided the tiny extra bit of oomph to push the "I could maybe..." into "I'll just...".
The
spoon making process was pretty similar to what I had used
in the past with the biggest difference being the exact geometry. The scraping spoon needed a long and fairly thin handle and a largish end with the appropriate curve to contact as wide a swath of the mixing bowl as possible. It actually works pretty well - noticeably better than my legacy spoons - so it ended up being worthwhile.
