I was looking for an easy project and since I like to use wooden spoons for cooking thought I'd try my hand at making my own. I sketched out a design that I liked and then went ahead and made one out of walnut. It turned out to be pretty simple to make compared to most of my other projects and seemed to work out fine so I thought I might make another one in a different type of wood. I chose cherry and that worked out fine too, so then I made a couple more and a couple more and eventually I had over a dozen spoons, all of the same design but from a dozen different types of wood.
I did some testing to find the most applicable finish for the spoons and ended up with one of my old favorites; Wipe-On Poly. It is surprisingly tough and resistant to water, oil and heat. Of course I've provided the normal excessive-photo "building-of"
page for those who like the nitty-gritty details.
