We received a number of plants including a beautiful fern from our next-door neighbour when she was clearing off the summer deck plants in the fall (thanks Susan!). She didn't have room for them inside her place so they moved North about 60' to our living room. Unfortunately the only table we had for the fern was a low fold-out thing, while a big fern really needs a tall table. I thought I'd whip up something simple for it. There was a bit of a rush since I wanted to get it done before the fern died, which it started doing pretty much as soon as it lost contact with our neighbour's green thumb.
I was just finishing off another project so I was able to get started on this one tout de suite. I decided to use only wood I had in my shop, and it turned out I had more than enough cherry, assuming I customized the design for my wood sizes. I went with a basic turned design and tweaked sizes where needed to accommodate my cherry stock. It took less than three weeks to complete and with diligent watering, fertilizing and misting, only about 1/3 of the fern had died by the time the last coat of varnish was dry - Success! There are some construction details
