This is another in a series of trivets I embarked upon in the spring of '20. It is actually sort of a standard design but I liked the look and thought I'd give it a shot. An example I had run across had the intriguing pattern seen here but was thick and angular and small, none of which did much for me. So mine is thinner, round-edged and a decent size. Just call me Mr. Creative...
The trivet is composed of individual pieces of maple, cherry and walnut woods that are laminated in a repeating pattern. The challenge with this type of construction is to get all the pieces exactly the correct size and shape so they align perfectly and fit together without visible seams. I didn't really get as close to that ideal as I would have liked, but some selective edge sanding helped so that in the end it looked fine from a modest distance. Especially with a pot on top. And I have the
photos to prove it.
